How to Create a Distribution List

Note: Distribution lists are only available to customers using the mail server bizmail.creativeanswers.com.au.  Customers on the other email servers can upgrade their service if distribution lists are required.

Two methods are available to create distribution lists. The method used depends on how large the distribution list is and if you have domain administration access.  The methods are:

Option 1 - Creating Aliases using Domain Administrator Account

Create a mail alias such as example@test.com and then add your email users.  This method is useful for small groups of less than 50 users.   For lists above 50 this method is inefficient as the system uses a single thread.

To create a distribution list using Aliases:

  1. Log in as the Domain Administrator
  2. Click Domain Settings
  3. Click Email Aliases
  4. Click Add Alias
  5. Add email addresses one per line
  6. Click Save

Option 2 - Creating Alaises using Control Panel

  1. Log into your Control Panel account for your domain
  2. Go to Mail
  3. Select Mail Groups
  4. Create a Mail Group which is you Alias name
  5. Enter in the email accounts for distribution

Option 3 - Mailing Lists using Domain Administrator account

Creat a Mailing List is the alternate method.  This is very effieicnt when sending to large groups.

To create a distribution list using a Mailing List:

  1. Log in as the Domain Administrator
  2. Click Domain Settings
  3. Click Mailing List
  4. Click New List
  5. Choose a Moderator (a user from the drop down list)
  6. Click the Option tab
    1. Uncheck Reply to List
    2. Click Save
  7. Click the List name Action
  8. Click List Subscriber
  9. Enter email addresses, one per line
  10. Click OK when list is complete

In order to send an email to the mailing/distribution list, create a new email from the Moderators account to maillistname@test.com.
