How To Setup DNN Parent Portal
| This article explains how to set up a parent portal using a unique domain name. You will require a a working DNN installation and at least one hosted domain. We will use "abc.com" as our hosted domain and "xyz.net" as our new domain that we want to use as a portal alias for our new parent portal. It is assumed you have registered the domain xyz.com and set the nameservers to Creative Asnwers hosting service.
Control Panel Set up.
- Log in to the Control Panel and Select Domains.
- Click on "Add New Domain"
- Click on "Domain-Alias"
- In the textbox type in your new domain name eg. "xyz.net"
- Set the Checkbox called "Pointing to an existing domain"
- In the dropdown menu, Select the website where the DotNetnuke installation was completed
- Leave the Checkbox "Enable DNS" selected
- This has created the DNS for "xyz.net" and the appropriate domain host header has been added for your IIS6 site. Please note any DNS changes are subject to DNS propagation period that may last up to 24 hours, so please be patient and allow some time for DNS changes to take effect.
DNN Set up.
- Login as the host user
- Go to the Host Menu and Select Portals
- Select Add Portal
- In the Portal domain type the full URL address, eg http://www.xyz.com
- If DNS is resolving correctly you should be able to browse your portal using new domain name.
