Getting your backup going quickly

Creatie Answers online backup service can be quickly and easily setup.  This article provides the quick steps to getting your backup started. 

Please follow the instructions below:

  1. Before you start you should have registered for a backup account and received your Username and Password. 
  2. Click here to download the software
  3. When prompted Select Run and complete the installation
  4. Locate Online Backup icon on your Desktop and start the program
  5. The program should now start and prompt you for your Username and Password.  Enter the details you received via email from Creative Answers.
  6. When prompted you can either use a system created encryption key or enter your own encyption key.  It is the key that is used to encypt your files in storage.  If you create a key, the files you backup cannot be restored without the key.  We recommend that you store the encryption key safely and not with your computer.  We are NOT able to assist you in restoring files without the encryption key.  The encyption key provides the security that your files are secure.
  7. If you entered an encryption key, print the encryption key if you require a printout
  8. To configure the software for backup you must follow these steps:
    • The first step is to select the folders you wish to backup.  You can use the automatic selection and/or you can select the files you wish to backup.  The steps are:
      • For Automatic Selection - on the menu Select Backup-Restore and then Automatic Selection.  Select the applications you use and then select apply.  The backup software will scan your disk each time a backup is scheduled looking for files created by these applications using the standard extensions.  If you have many files the automatic selection can be slow at backup.
      • For custom selection - use the list of folders displayed on your system and select the folders you wish to backup. 
    • When you have selected the files using either method or both methods, verify that the folders you wish to backup are shown on the right side of the screen with teh check box ticked
    • The next step is to set the schedule for backups so it is automatic.  The steps are:
      • Press the Schedule Backup on the bottom right corner
      • The top half of the screen sets the backup time.  This can be the recommended time of midnight daily or a custom time.  Set the backup time as you require. 
      • The next step is to set the notification.  You can be notifiied for success, failure, or not at all.  Select the notification and add the email address you wish to be notified
      • Set the check box Backup when Idle if you do not want the backup to only run in the background when the computer is idle
      • Set the Start backup when schedule missed checkbox to have the backup immediately start when the computer is turned on if a backup is missed due to the computer being off or the system is not connected to the internet.
      • Select Apply
    • If you want the system to shutdown when the backup is complete please do the following:
      • Select Tools->Preferences
      • Select the checkbox Shutdown the PC when the schedueld backup completes
      • Select Apply
  9. If you wish the backup to start immediately Press Backup Now

Please note the Backup speed (and time) is limited by your internet connection speed.
