Managing SPAM Settings

The spam settings for your email account or for your domain can be adjusted to suit individual or business needs.  This article discusses how to adjust the settings.

Caution: we receive an equal number of requests to tighten the spam settings as we do to ease the spam settings.  The default position has been adjusted over an extended period of time and is a reasonable position for most businesses.  If you are having an issue with just one email or domain then consider using the Trusted Sender settings or individual Spam/Not Spam settings.  Changes to the main settings will affect all users.

When an email is received it is run through many spam checks.  Each spam check can allocate points based on the type of test.  At the end of the spam check process the total points allocated is used to determine the action.  The actions can be Do nothing, add prefix text, Move to a folder or Delete the email.  The default position is to delete all medium and high spam.

There are two major settings that can be applied at an individual email account or across a domain.  These are:

  1. Spam settings affecting all incoming emails
  2. Marking en email account or domain as a trusted sender
  3. For users with IMAP, login to webmail and right click the email to mark it as spam or not spam
